Timeline and a Message from the Chairs
A Message from the Standards Revision Chairs:
We want to let all NASPAA members know how the Steering and Standards Committees are processing the information gathered from the April 2008 focus groups on the draft new NASPAA standards and the path ahead for standards revision. The feedback from the over 120 participants was substantive, helpful, and extensive. Thanks to all who participated! As described below, we subjected the information gathered to content analyses consideration by subcommittees combining Steering and Standards Committee members, and to discussion by NASPAA standards revision leaders and staff. The feedback allowed us to identify four overarching issues—
-
Who are we--in terms of programs included and what to call our field?
- What is the role of the ‘basis of evidence’?
- How can programs measure student learning outcomes?
- What data will need to be submitted to COPRA/NASPAA and how will transparency be defined?
We will discuss these issues on panels at the NASPAA Annual Conference in Charleston, SC, in October 2008. We plan to post the next draft of the new standards on the NASPAA website by October 1, 2008 so we can collect more feedback and discuss those remarks at the conference. So, we look forward to your comments on the NASPAA website, discussions and feedback at the conference, and your ideas throughout this process.

Steve Maser, Chair, NASPAA Standards Committee
