NASPAA Accreditation Staff recently attended the 2023 Fall Conference of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA) to learn more about trends and happenings in the field of quality assurance.
ASPA is an association of organizations that evaluate the quality of programs in colleges and universities for more than 100 different professions and specialized disciplines – from nursing to architecture, and physical therapy to public policy. The Fall conference marked the 30 year anniversary of the association.
Martha Bohrt, NASPAA Chief Accreditation Officer, presented on the panel titled, “Teach Outs for Institution and Program Closures – a Primer.” The session focused on good practices and guidelines to ensure students are protected when programs and institutions close. Panelists also included India Y. Tips, Executive Director of the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and Karen Solomon, Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at the Higher Learning Commission.
Fabiola Bachinelo, Accreditation Manager, and Shaun Gabrielli, Accreditation Associate, also attended the 2-day event, which took place in Washington, DC. offered sessions on the current political climate and its impact on accreditation, evaluating site visitor performance, and legal perspectives on student complaints, among others.
