Higher Education and Data Internship — Paid, Part-time Summer 2024

The Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) is a nonprofit association in Washington, DC, dedicated to ensuring excellence in public service education and promoting the ideal of public service.  We are a membership association of over 300 graduate education programs in public and nonprofit affairs, policy, and administration around the globe.  NASPAA is also the accreditor of master’s degree programs in these fields.

NASPAA is seeking a student in fields such as public policy, public or nonprofit administration, education, or similar for an internship that will last approximately 8-10 weeks during Summer 2024, starting sometime in June.

Primary job responsibilities are expected to include the following:

Accreditation

  • Assist with record keeping during the 2024 COPRA June Meeting
  • Collaborate with the Accreditation team for the prep and distribution process of the NASPAA Accreditation Decision letters.

Data Analysis

  • Analysis of NASPAA Annual Data—the intern will analyze the 2022-2023 annual data submitted by NASPAA member schools and accredited programs.  Their deliverables will be the Accreditation Data Report (example), slides to be used at this year’s NASPAA Annual Conference, cleaned Excel files for download on the NASPAA website (example), and infographics to be used on NASPAA’s website and in the NASPAA Newsletter.
  • Diversity Insights Report—the intern will do a separate report on NASPAA’s Diversity Data (example). The intern will analyze diversity data collected in programs’ Self Study Reports to provide insights into diversity at NASPAA-accredited programs.
  • Assist with the Admissions Directors Survey—the intern will analyze the survey results.  They will present the results at the Admissions Meeting at Georgetown University on July 11th.
  • Assist with general data review and clean-up

Teaching and Learning

  • Assist with an inventory of the case studies currently available on NASPAA’s teaching and learning platform, Publicases.org.  The inventory will review the tags used for the cases and identify which NASPAA competencies they support/cover.

Events

  • General administrative tasks in preparation for NASPAA 2024 Annual Conference

Additional projects, depending on the applicant’s experience and interests, could be included. The individual selected for this position will assist the NASPAA staff in supporting and enhancing programs and services for the association’s members; he or she will work directly with senior staff who will provide direction and supervision.

The intern/project assistant position will pay $18 per hour, depending on experience and student status, and will be part-time (~32 hours per week).  The position will be mostly remote.  However, if the chosen applicant is local to DC, they will have the option of coming into the office once a week when their supervisor is in the office.  If the chosen applicant is not local to DC the internship will be fully remote.
